OwnCo is building a new ownership economy by making it easier for everyone to share ownership of their companies and projects – whether as a platform, startup, cooperative, or creator. The digital product aims to create a unified talent management system that shows in real-time how everyone contributes to achieving both customer and business goals. The vision: Make Co-ownership a standard in the business world.

How to get from ideation to development?

In a first phase consisting of ideation workshops, we explored several business models: ESOP tokenization and co-ownership platforms. The second and crucial phase consisted of 8 sprints in 8 weeks in which we wireframed and prototyped the main features of the future digital product. Those prototypes were tested on potential clients in the start-up and creative economy scene. These insights led to uncovering pain points and iterations in design. We also supported OwnCo with their pitch strategy during their investment round, leading to a 7-digit fundraising total.

Approach

We created an interface, without using unnecessary blockchain jargon

The main goal was to build a digital product that is easy to use and perceived by users. To be able to communicate the complex business model, we created a user-friendly interface based on the insights we gained during our user tests.

Creative Process

To ensure the necessary pace for the product design we worked in 1 week sprints. On Monday we sat together with the CEO and development team to align goals for the week in our sprint planning. The following two days were designated for the design and prototyping, followed by customer tests on Thursday. Friday was review and feedback time. Thanks to this set-up we were able to make sure that our design exceeds customer expectations and was always guided by the internal strategic developments of Ownco since they operate in the fast-paced start-up stage.

Learnings

Dealing with a new, decentralised world

The technology forced us to constantly challenge the web 3.0 specialist but also to understand the possibility and the limits of blockchain development. For instance, testing of live environment is a tad more complicated than traditional web since any deployment on-chain is kind of final and non-reversible.
